Hallett, Capt. William House

The Captain William Hallett House at 570 Main Street in Hyannis is a full five-bay, 1-1/2-story Cape cottage built about 1800, later remodeled around 1900 with Queen Anne features including a bay window, turned-baluster porch, and eyebrow-curved shed dormer. During the mid-19th century it was occupied by Captain William Hallett (1805-1872), a master of deep-water schooners, and it later became the home of Dr. Charles Harris, a village physician and author of Hyannis Sea Captains (1939). The house is significant for its early maritime associations and as an example of a Federal-period Cape cottage with Queen Anne detailing, meeting National Register Criteria A and C.
