Gleason, Edward Francis House

The Dr. Edward Francis Gleason House at 88 Lewis Bay Road in Hyannis (Barnstable) is a fine two-story Federal-period dwelling built about 1790, set on an L-plan under intersecting hip roofs with interior chimneys. Its five-bay facade features a centered entrance with sidelights, an elliptical fan, and a one-story Tuscan porch, along with corner quoins and a delicate dentilated cornice. First owned by coastal-vessel master Captain Timothy Baker, it is best known as the home of Dr. Edward Francis Gleason (1868-1944), the founding physician of nearby Cape Cod Hospital, and is significant for its maritime and medical associations and as an example of Federal domestic architecture.
