Crowell - Guyer Barn

A contributing property in the Municipal Group Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. Set on a large parcel in downtown Hyannis, this district brings together five municipally used buildings of varied date, style, and material, along with the historic town green. Its elements range from a shingled Cape-style library of about 1800 and a mid-19th-century barn to the Neo-Federal Old Town Hall of 1926 and the two surviving red-brick buildings of the Hyannis Normal School, a finely crafted Queen Anne complex of 1897 designed by the Boston firm Hartwell, Richardson and Driver. United as the municipal group in the 1970s, the district is significant for its associations with Hyannis' early-19th-century growth, the Normal School (later Hyannis State Teachers College), and 20th-century town government, as well as for the variety and quality of its architecture.
