History
Joseph Crowell, born in 1744, bought these pastures with his father and put up the farmhouse around 1775; it was among the first seven houses in West Falmouth. The property passed through the Bourne family until 1979, when Salt Pond Areas Bird Sanctuaries purchased it from the Bourne grandchildren and opened its roughly 49 acres of fields, woods and walking trails to the public. Farmhouse and barn both survive, and the land is now a well-known birding spot beside Salt Pond.
