History

This marker on Church Street in Barnstable commemorates the site of the Deacon William Crocker fortification house, one of the fortified dwellings colonial Cape Cod towns designated as refuges in times of danger. The Crockers were among Barnstable's founding families in the town settled in 1639. Placed in 1939, the marker stands within a local historic district.
