History
Known locally as the Sea Captain's Church, this 1835 building went up for $3,700 on the site of the 1795 Bass River Meeting House, and its walls carry tablets naming 106 sea captains who belonged to the congregation. Its greatest treasure is a pipe organ built in London in 1762 by the Swiss maker John Snetzler — reputed to be the oldest organ in the country still in regular use, and one of only two surviving Snetzlers imported to America before the Revolution. A Sandwich glass chandelier and original box pews survive inside.
