A heavily built, double-ended, self-righting and self-bailing rescue boat, it was stationed at Chatham, Massachusetts, from 1946 until 1968 and retains an estimated 80-90 percent of its original fabric, now maintained as an operational floating museum by the Orleans Historical Society. It is nationally famous for the 1952 Pendleton rescue, when its four-man crew crossed the Chatham bar in a raging northeaster and 60-foot seas to save 32 men from the broken tanker Pendleton, an act for which all four crewmen received the Gold Lifesaving Medal. The boat is significant under Criteria A and C for its lifesaving history and as a representative example of the 36-foot TRS motor lifeboat design.

Coast Guard Motor Lifeboat CG-36500 is a historic 36-foot wooden lifeboat built in 1946 at the Coast Guard Yard in Curtis Bay, Maryland, and stationed at Chatham, Massachusetts. On February 18, 1952, its four-man crew under coxswain Bernard C. Webber rescued 32 men from the storm-broken tanker SS Pendleton in one of the most celebrated rescues in Coast Guard history. Retired in 1968 and later restored, the boat is owned by the Orleans Historical Society, berthed at Rock Harbor, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.
