Brewster Cemetery, also known as the Lower Road Cemetery, was laid out in 1840 on Lower Road in this Cape Cod town and served as one of Brewster's principal 19th-century burying grounds during its heyday as a home port for sea captains. It is a contributing property in a National Register historic district, and its rows of granite and marble monuments reflect the mid-1800s taste for the fenced family lot rather than the older colonial slate. The setting preserves the character of a Cape village cemetery of the period.
